June is upon us, bringing with it the Mediterranean’s classic yacht regatta season. As always, we’re proud to be launching the festivities right here in Antibes with the famous Les Voiles d’Antibes.
Like a scene from a fairytale, if you look out to sea in June you’re sure to notice a flock of 19th century sailing yachts on the horizon, heading for Antibes. Perhaps you will recognise the mythical yachts first – Moonbeam of Fife, Hallowe’en, Outlaw and Adria amongst others – given their fame at regattas right around the world. But don’t discount the impressive selection of Vintage Yachts, built before 1950; Classic Yachts, built before 1976; and the modern Yachts ‘Esprit de Tradition’. Anything can happen at Les Voiles d’Antibes.
Excitement will be mounting amongst owners and crews as they approach Port Vauban and prepare to parade their renovations, test their upgrades and inaugurate their new purchases amongst a cheerful crowd of likeminded enthusiasts. Antibes is known as one of the buzziest regatta resorts on the circuit, kicking off the classic yachting season and marking the first stage of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. But it is not just Les Voiles d’Antibes’ position in the calendar that makes it such a special event. Perhaps it is Antibes’ famous jazz scene coming into swing that adds real pazazz to the atmosphere – or perhaps it’s the morning-to-night exhibitions, parades, cocktails and challenges that take place alongside the gripping match races.
Races will take place across the five-day event along the spectacular 23-kilometre stretch of coastline between the Bay of Antibes, made famous by Monet’s 1888 impressionist artwork, and our very own Juan-les-Pins. Just a short drive from Port Vauban, residents of Parc du Cap are ideally placed to enjoy the festivities at their leisure, but those looking to get in on the action might consider renting a private yacht for the event.
Whether you are taking part by sea or on land, we wish you a Les Voiles d’Antibes 2018 filled with adventure and joy.
